About Carolina
Gaining the confidence to pursue the goals that filled my heart with joy has been a long journey. Raised to prioritize the needs of others, I attended and graduated medical school mostly at the behest of my parents. I then completed 4 years of advanced medical residency training in ophthalmology because – well – that’s what was expected, not because I was necessarily passionate about being an ophthalmologist. Don’t get me wrong. Overall, I am grateful for the experience. I learned a lot and made many friends along the way.
However, when I actually opened my medical practice, I realized that something was missing.
Western (allopathic) medicine is an evidence-based system that mainly uses a reductionist approach. This means that it seeks to simplify health events and processes by looking at their smallest elements, thus reducing something complex into its most simple form.
Western medicine jumps into action primarily at times of crisis, when people are sick or injured. And this is needed. However, I was frustrated seeing the same problems and conditions in my office week after week, month after month. I wanted to focus more on things that would prevent health problems from occurring in the first place. I wanted to use a more holistic approach to practicing medicine.
Choosing a new direction
.
This led me to Ayurveda, a traditional system of medicine that originated in India around 5,000 years ago. Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words Ayur (life) and Veda (knowledge), meaning the knowledge of life. It has a rich history and is one of the three pillars of Vedic philosophy. The other two are vedic astrology and yoga. Together they form an integrated approach to abundant living and well-being. Ayurveda’s holistic approach aims to restore and maintain the natural balance of the body, promoting long-term health and vitality.
I became so fascinated with Ayurveda that I enrolled in a two-year training program offered by the California College of Ayurveda.
Embracing Vedic Astrology
Because Ayurveda is just one of the three pillars of vedic integrated philosophy, I was exposed to Vedic astrology and yoga during my studies at the California College of Ayurveda. Although I successfully completed my Ayurveda studies, I was captivated by Vedic astrology and dedicated myself to its study and practice.
Over the next couple of years, I looked obsessively for sources to help me increase my knowledge. I studied formally with a few teachers, sought occasional advice from others, and read a lot of books. I eventually studied extensively with Freedom Cole. Through his teaching and guidance, I have developed into a knowledgeable, competent, and empathetic Vedic astrologer. Freedom continues to be my mentor.
What I love
When I’m not working with my amazing clients or continuing my vedic astrology education, I’m operating a small farm of 8.5 acres with my spouse. We manage a small flock of hair sheep and grow healthy fruits, vegetables, and herbs. When I have downtime, I like to spend time with our five dogs – Oyama, Buddy, Pudding, Gray, and Orion. I enjoy amateur photography, cooking, chess, writing, coffee, watching movies, playing computer games, and nerding out studying different philosophies and religions.
I continue to pursue my goals relentlessly!
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me.
